Assignment: Los Angeles Times

Claudia Goetzelmann is a native German photographer who has had the opportunity to live and work in Africa and Asia prior to landing in San Francisco four years ago.

She continues to gain international recognition for her fresh, original approach to making photographs, and has received many awards for her extraordinary images and promotions. Claudia's clients include graphic design firms, advertising agencies and publishers.

For Claudia, ADBASE is a tool that allows her to focus on the many priorities of her diverse life while spending less time on the details of promotion.

I looked up an editor on ADBASE, contacted her and told her I was going to be in town. She looked at my website and emailed me all the information I needed. I went to the locations (to shoot) and that was it.

"It makes life so much easier. I cannot imagine doing all this work without having this source. You'd need an army of people to contact all the agencies. Instead, it's one click away."

"I have used ADBASE now for almost two years and look things up almost every day, contacts, new contacts, and to check back on people. I send them my promo cards and call them up and they get to know you, and then they call in your book and then it happens. It's not like... it's very rare that you call them up and they say, 'Oh yeah, I have a job for you.' Usually that's not how it happens," Goetzelmann said.

I can click and go on ADBASE and find what I'm looking for, it's so quick. My time is very valuable, so it's worth the subscription.

Nevertheless, earlier this year she landed an assignment with the photo editor at the Los Angeles Times with just such a serendipitous event. "I looked up on ADBASE who the editor was and contacted her and told her I was going to be in town. She looked at my website and emailed me all the information I needed. I went to the locations (to shoot) and that was it."

Goetzelmann does regular mailings every two-and-a-half months. She and her assistant update their own in-house list using the latest data from ADBASE. She plans to do some email marketing in the near future as well, including a web-based interactive newsletter, using the ADBASE email lists.

"I think a lot of people when they start out they say, my God, it's too much. But it's so worth it, because time is so much more valuable than that. I can click and go on ADBASE, find what I'm looking for and put together a target list. I can be doing something else in the meantime. My time is very valuable so it's worth the subscription. It's worth more than that."
