Assignment: Hospital Work

Like other photographers, Chris Amaral was hesitant to commit to ADBASE when he first heard about it from a friend. So he decided to try ADBASE's free trial and see what it was like. He also requested a free personally-guided tour from an ADBASE representative.

"I had some friends who had used ADBASE and so I finally decided I'm going to try it. Because marketing right now is something I really have be on top of. And you know, I was just impressed with how organized and specific ADBASE was," Amaral said.

The New York City-based photographer has been in business for over 12 years, focusing on commercial work and images of animals. He actually landed a new assignment with his first email campaign using ADBASE.

"One of the other things I do is hospital work. I haven't done hospital (shots) in a while, and it was time to start marketing it. So I went looking for agencies that specialized in pharmaceuticals, medical or hospital type work. I sent out a bunch of emails and got five back for possible jobs. I ended up getting two small jobs from that, which was great," Amaral said.

"The ADBASE free tour was awesome, too. That was great because I'm not someone who's really technical when it comes to stuff like that. It's pretty easy, but they walk you through it and show you a lot of stuff that you'd probably miss otherwise," Amaral said.

Marketing's never been my strong point. But it's time that I made it my strong point. Which is why I decided to use ADBASE.

Today, Amaral is focusing on email marketing, which has worked effectively for him, perhaps because of his specialty in animal photography. He's excited about having ADBASE as a marketing tool and continuing his self-promotional campaigns.

"I've always told assistants that when it comes to the business, the one thing I have done is spend money on marketing. Because the cameras and the toys aren't going to get you work. Marketing is going to. That's my own personal opinion. Especially for new people starting out. Don't get wrapped up in all the gear. Because the gear won't get you the work."
